๐Ÿ• Italian chef fired for refusing to put pineapple on pizza! He went to court, but even there luck was not on his side! ๐Ÿ˜‚-1

There are things Italians are ready to discuss endlessly: football, coffee, pasta and, of course, pizza.

But the moment someone suggests putting pineapple on pizza, an ordinary culinary argument can turn into a real international standoff!

That is exactly what happened in Australia, where Italian chef Davide Tamburella lost his job after a conflict with the restaurant's management.

One of the reasons was his categorical refusal to make Hawaiian pizza.

For the chef, the combination of pineapple and pizza was so unacceptable that he chose to be left without a job rather than betray his culinary convictions! ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ "Pineapple on pizza? Over my dead body!"

Davide worked as head chef at the La Costa restaurant in Brisbane, Australia.

The establishment specialised in Italian cuisine and promised visitors the atmosphere of the real Italian Riviera.

But one day a client celebrating a birthday asked for a pizza with ham and pineapple.

For most Australian restaurants, this is a completely ordinary order.

However, Tamburella held a different opinion.

He declared that pineapple on pizza insults his Italian culture!

Management asked him to fulfil the order, but the chef refused.

What is more, it turned out that a similar conflict had already arisen for the third time in four years!

One can imagine the conversation in the kitchen:

โ€” Davide, the client is asking for Hawaiian pizza!

โ€” No!

โ€” But he is ready to pay!

โ€” No!

โ€” It's just pineapple!

โ€” Exactly! It's PINEAPPLE! ๐Ÿคฃ

โš–๏ธ The dispute reached the employment commission

In May 2026, the restaurant fired the head chef.

Admittedly, management later clarified that the matter was not only about pineapples.

The employer was also unhappy with the chef's manner of communication, his use of coarse language, and certain situations that arose during work.

Davide himself decided to challenge the dismissal at Australia's Fair Work Commission.

But then something no less unexpected happened.

His complaint was rejected because the filing deadline had been missed!

According to the rules, one had to apply within 21 days of dismissal, but the chef did so later.

Therefore, the commission did not issue a final ruling on whether the dismissal had been fair.

So the dispute over pineapples remained legally unresolved.

It seems the only thing that definitively won in this story is the calendar! ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น But the story ended almost perfectly!

And here is where the funniest part begins.

After his dismissal, Davide found work at another Italian restaurant in Brisbane.

And you know what?

The new establishment's menu has no pineapple pizza at all!

It seems the chef has finally found culinary peace.

No tropical fruit on dough.

No conflicts over Hawaiian pizza.

Just Italian cuisine and the chance to do what he loves.

As for the former restaurant, La Costa, it has already closed โ€” though for reasons related to rent and business expenses, not because of this conflict.

๐Ÿ˜‚ The pineapple that divided two continents

Actually, the most interesting thing in this story is the origin of the famous Hawaiian pizza.

Despite the name, it was not invented in Hawaii at all.

In 1962, Greek immigrant Sam Panopoulos began experimenting with toppings at his restaurant in Canada.

And one day he added canned pineapple to a pizza.

That is how a dish came about that still gets pizza lovers arguing all over the world.

Some consider the combination of sweet pineapple and salty ham magnificent.

Others are certain that such a thing should not be called pizza at all.

But perhaps it is Davide Tamburella who went the furthest of all in this dispute.

He did not simply refuse to eat Hawaiian pizza. He refused to make it, lost his job, and ended up before an employment commission!

And all for the sake of one principle.

Pineapples have no place on pizza!

Now all that remains is to hope that at the new restaurant no one will ask to add strawberries to pasta.

Otherwise, we fear Australia will have to create a separate court to protect Italian cuisine from fruit! ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ๐Ÿคฃ
