Maine Bakery Sells Over 2,500 Cookies Weekly After Social Media Feature

In Harmony, Maine, a roadside cookie stand has become a major attraction. Owner Laura Pomerleau opened Cookie Jar of Maine three years ago right on her driveway.

She used to work full-time and considered the business a hobby. At the beginning of the year, she quit her main job, expecting a relaxed pace—four days a week with three-day weekends. Instead, she now works 60-70 hours.

Everything changed after one social media post. Pomerleau wrote that the stand operates 24/7. The video went viral, and the flow of customers sharply increased.

Now, she sells over 1,000 cookies a week directly from the stand. Another 1,500 or more go to local stores. In total—more than 2,500 pieces weekly.
