Range Rover GT: the fifth in the family and the first fully electric grand tourer

Range Rover introduced the GT.

On July 22, 2026, Range Rover officially introduced the fifth member of its family – the Range Rover GT. This is the brand's first all-electric vehicle, built on the new EMA (Electric Modular Architecture) platform, featuring a lower and sportier stance, coupe-like proportions, and a minimalist interior designed for the tranquility and comfort of long journeys. For comparison, the Range Rover family includes the flagship, Sport, Velar, and Evoque – all positioned as high-riding SUVs, while the GT marks a shift into the passenger car grand tourer segment for the first time.

Prototypes are already undergoing final testing worldwide, hidden under special camouflage inspired by the landscapes around Range Rover's development center in Gaydon, UK. The Gaydon center is an advanced 4 million sq. meter complex, opened in 2019, employing nearly 13,000 engineers and designers. The GT's design emphasizes a stretched silhouette and graceful lines that distinguish the model from the traditional SUVs in the family: a lower roofline, a fastback-style rear, and smooth, flowing body panels. According to Range Rover's Managing Director, Gerry McGovern, the GT will "redefine the very essence of the grand tourer class, combining the expressive power of a true GT – in its stance, proportions, and the refinement created for long journeys – with capabilities unattainable for traditional cars in this segment."

The interior embodies reductionism in practice: a single touchscreen instead of a traditional instrument panel, hidden air vents that run the entire width of the cabin as horizontal graphics, and tactile fabric materials seamlessly integrating speakers and electronics. The front seat features a driver's display; the rear houses a spacious bench, initially designed for two passengers (a four-seater option will appear later). Special attention has been paid to rear-seat legroom – one of the best in its class – and intuitive access to the car's functions. The result: a sanctuary, not a clutter of buttons and screens.

Production will begin at the Halewood plant in Merseyside, UK – a historic Land Rover production hub with a 60-year history, currently assembling the Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport. The GT will be produced alongside ICE and hybrid models on the flexible EMA platform. Initially, the GT will be available exclusively as a battery-electric vehicle (BEV), but a hybrid variant (HEV) will follow later. The EMA platform opens new possibilities for electrification: it was designed from the ground up for electric vehicles, allowing for a flat floor and all-wheel drive, complementing the existing MLA architecture and offering customers a full spectrum of powertrains.

The Range Rover GT is positioned as the most "car-like" representative of the family – with an emphasis on handling and elegance, while retaining the brand's legendary versatility. Its lower stance and sporty proportions bring it closer to classic European grand tourers, but thanks to EMA and its all-wheel-drive configuration, it retains a rare capability for a GT: off-road ability – something ordinary sports cars in this class can never achieve.

Detailed technical specifications, including battery capacity, range, charging speed, and pricing, will be revealed later this year. Order books are expected to open by the end of 2026. For now, it's clear: Range Rover is confidently moving towards an electric future without abandoning its identity. And this means British luxury is not giving up – it's adapting.

The Range Rover GT is more than just an electric car. It's a demonstration that electrification can enhance, not weaken, the character of a legendary brand, opening up a new segment for those who want a car with soul in the battery era.
