“Stars Align”: the LA28 slogan reminds us that Olympic triumph is not a coincidence but the result of hard work

On 28 October 2026, the organizers of the Los Angeles Games presented the official slogan “Stars Align.” At first glance it is simply a beautiful phrase about Hollywood and the starry sky, but behind it stands a clear message: great moments are not born of luck but of years of preparation that finally meets the right moment.

LA28 emphasizes that the slogan concerns not only 15 thousand athletes. It includes volunteers, small businesses, local communities and everyone who will prepare and stage the Games. This is the third time Los Angeles has hosted the Olympics, and the first time it has hosted the Paralympics. The slogan refers to the 1984 Games emblem “Stars in Motion” and to the 50 stars of the American flag, which in 2028 will for the first time be carried in a torch relay across all states.

LA28’s chief marketing officer, Alex Marchand, says plainly: “Stars Align” is not about luck but about effort and commitment. Preparation meets opportunity, and something outstanding is born. The video launching the slogan features the Red Hot Chili Peppers track “Can’t Stop,” while the footage shows the Hollywood Sign, Griffith Observatory and sunsets over the city—everything that makes LA recognizable around the world.

There is also a commercial calculation in this message. The organizers have already sold more than six million tickets and plan in 2027 to open sales on a first-come, first-served basis. The slogan is becoming the foundation of storytelling for the next two years: it must engage not only fans but also local suppliers through the “Local Authentic” program. In this way LA is trying to turn a global event into an engine for its region.

Let us compare with previous slogans: “United by Emotion” for Tokyo 2020 and “Games Wide Open” for Paris 2024. LA28 goes further—it does not merely unite through emotions or open doors but insists that behind every “star” moment stands the hard, often invisible work of thousands of people. Like a constellation: individual stars mean nothing on their own until they line up into a single picture.

With 625 days to go before the start of the Games on 14 July 2028, the slogan is already working as an invitation: come not only to watch but also to take part. In 2028, Los Angeles will show that the real stars are those who prepared for years, and those who at the right moment found themselves in the right place.
