SpaceX Sets New Record: Two Falcon 9 Launches Just 38 Minutes Apart

Edited by: Svitlana Velhush

On the evening of August 15, 2026, SpaceX launched two Falcon 9 rockets, just 38 minutes apart. This marks a new record for the shortest interval between orbital launches.

The first launch occurred at 9:12 PM EDT from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. This rocket deployed eight satellites for the telecommunications company Globalstar into a low Earth orbit. All spacecraft successfully separated.

The second launch took place at 9:50 PM EDT from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. This mission, designated USSF-366, was carried out for the U.S. Space Force. While flight details remain classified, observers speculate the payload consists of Starshield-based satellites.

Both first-stage boosters successfully landed: one returned to a landing zone in Florida, and the other touched down on the droneship “Of Course I Still Love You” in the Pacific Ocean.

The previous record, set on August 31, 2024, with a 1 hour 51 minute interval between two Starlink missions, was broken. This new achievement surpassed the prior record by 27 minutes.

By mid-August 2026, SpaceX had already conducted 96 Falcon 9 launches, with approximately 75% of these being Starlink missions. How might such a rapid pace influence the future of both commercial and governmental space programs?

This dual launch from opposite coasts of the United States further demonstrated the highly optimized logistics of the company. Efficient preparation and seamless coordination between launch sites enable reduced turnaround times between flights without compromising reliability.
