Kaja Kallas, the EU's foreign policy chief, announced that the European Union intends to significantly expand its sanctions against Russia in the coming months.

During an interview with the German newspaper Die Welt, she emphasized that the measures already in place have severely impacted the Russian economy.

"European sanctions have already cost Russia dearly, depriving its war machine of over 1 trillion euros, and this autumn, I will propose the most far-reaching sanctions lists since the war began," Kallas stated.

According to her, the total number of sanctioned Russian entities will immediately increase by one-third after the adoption of the new measures.

Pressure must intensify until Moscow ceases the war, she added.

Kallas did not specify the exact timing or details of the upcoming package.

It is worth noting that in July, the European Union approved its 21st sanctions package, imposing restrictions on Russia's banking sector and cryptocurrency networks.

Sanctions have remained a key instrument for exerting pressure on Russia since the early months of the conflict.

Kallas made it clear: work on new restrictions is already underway, and autumn will be the time for their active advancement.
