In Mainz, an ordinary day suddenly turned into a special operation of this level:
"Nobody move. We have a seagull."
The bird managed to catch its leg on a fishing hook and hang from a steel cable about eight metres from the bridge.
The situation looked as if the seagull had accidentally secured VIP access to a place where ordinary birds are forbidden.
To reach it, firefighters had to bring in an aerial ladder, and the police had to temporarily close traffic.
This means that somewhere, people were stuck in a traffic jam asking:
— What happened?
And the answer was:
— A seagull.
And the most wonderful thing is that it really was reason enough.
No panic, no fuss. Just an entire city adjusting for a few minutes to a single bird that clearly hadn't planned on becoming the main event of the day.
One can imagine the seagull itself:
— I was just flying about my business. Why are there firefighters, police, and a road closure all around?
In the end, rescuers retrieved the bird, and traffic was restored.
So now Mainz has a story where one seagull briefly received more priority on the road than half the city.
Passenger importance level: seagull — VIP. 😄
