Casio earU: Stylish New Headphones Designed to Enhance Hearing

New earU headphones from Casio are designed to make hearing improvement stylish.

Casio has made a surprise entry into a new market with the introduction of the earU ER-100, a stylish pair of open-ear headphones that function as both wireless earbuds and a hearing aid.

This debut model from the new earU sub-brand was announced on May 19, 2026, and is scheduled to launch in Japan on May 28. At present, it is officially available only within the Japanese market.

The standout feature is the open-ear cuff design. These headphones do not sit inside the ear canal but instead wrap gently around the outer ear. This allows sound to remain remarkably natural, preserving the wearer's sense of direction, distance, and the sound of their own voice. Casio developed them specifically for users who want to avoid the clinical appearance often associated with traditional medical hearing aids.

Engineers utilized acoustic technologies refined over years of developing electronic musical instruments. The proprietary Cuff Technology suppresses feedback "howling," resonance, and wind noise while clarifying speech in crowded environments. Using the dedicated app, users can complete a simple hearing test to automatically personalize the sound or select from preset profiles for cafes, offices, outdoor settings, or business meetings.

Key Specifications:

  • Weight per earbud: approximately 8 grams
  • Battery life: up to 9.5 hours in speech enhancement mode and up to 14 hours for standard music playback
  • Fast charging: a 10-minute charge provides about 90 minutes of use
  • Full charging time: approximately 1.5 hours
  • Water resistance: IPX4 splash-proof rating
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.4
  • Colors: Navy Black and Ivory White, with swappable external accessories for customization

The price in Japan is ¥49,940 (approximately $315–$320).

Casio is positioning the earU not as a medical device, but as a lifestyle gadget for a younger generation that listens to a lot of music through headphones and is experiencing a gradual loss of speech clarity in noisy settings—a phenomenon the company calls "moya-mimi" (foggy ear).

Compared to typical hearables like the Sony LinkBuds or Bose Ultra Open, the new Casio model offers more robust hearing assistance features, though it will likely lag behind flagship competitors in music quality, particularly regarding bass response and active noise cancellation.

Bottom line: If you are looking for a blend of style, all-day comfort, and moderate hearing assistance without needing a doctor's visit, the Casio earU appears to be a highly promising and "human-centric" option.
