The ego is essentially the assembly mechanism for the personality. It is the framework through which the personality itself emerges.
An analogy can be drawn to building a car from a technical blueprint and various components.
A Soul can design as many personalities as an engineer can dream up vehicles.
However, to actually drive, a physical car is required. To incarnate, a real ego is indispensable.
This defines its specific purpose.
Beyond this, the ego follows its own evolutionary path—to reach a state where it no longer constructs limitations. This results in an "advanced ego," where boundaries are so thin that the Soul effectively "looks through" it. The ultimate expression of physical form is an ego that has entirely surrendered the "control panel" to the Higher Self. The term "Higher Self" refers to a focused aspect of the Soul channeled into a "Personality image." The more of the Higher that is present, the less of the physical remains.
The general logic is that physicality acts as a filter, narrowing perception frequencies to a specific range. Once you expand that range, you essentially slip out of physical perception.
The stage of "thinning boundaries" involves expanding this range so that you begin to identify with the collective—a "Self is We" perspective—recognizing yourself as both an individual and a collective in equal measure. This marks the next level of the Game. That is where the non-physical field and many other realities begin.
