24 people came to buy one car. In India, an entire family came for a new car-1

In India, an ordinary new car delivery turned into a real family celebration. 24 relatives came to the dealership at once for a single car. While the numerous guests took photos and celebrated the purchase, other customers were forced to wait their turn. The story sparked heated discussion on social media.

Buying a new car becomes an important event for many families. However, one Indian family decided to mark the acquisition on such a grand scale that an ordinary car dealership temporarily turned into a venue for a big family celebration.

To collect one car on 7 November 2026 a whole delegation of roughly 24 people arrived. The relatives gathered to share the joy of the purchase together, take commemorative photos and take part in the ceremonial handover of the keys.

The unusual story became known after a dissatisfied customer posted on the Reddit platform.

They came for a car and ended up at a family celebration

The author of the post said that he had come to the dealership together with two relatives to collect his new Mahindra Thar SUV.

The family of three had expected a pleasant and ceremonial procedure for receiving the car. But it soon turned out that at the same time another family was celebrating its purchase, having brought about 24 guests.

The numerous relatives took photos, chatted with the staff and enjoyed the festive atmosphere.

According to the dissatisfied buyer, practically all the dealership's employees were busy serving the large group.

As a result, other customers had to wait until the family celebration was over.

The car was handed over, but the relatives were in no hurry to leave

The most surprising thing, according to the author of the post, began after the official handover of the car.

Even though the keys had been handed over, the numerous guests remained in the dealership for at least another hour.

The employees helped organise the photos, responded to the guests' requests and gave their attention to the celebrating group.

Other buyers meanwhile waited their turn.

The author of the complaint stressed that he fully understood the family's wish to mark such an important event. However, in his opinion, the celebration should not interfere with serving the other customers.

One car — a maximum of five guests?

After the unusual incident, the buyer suggested that Mahindra reconsider its rules for handing over new cars.

In his opinion, a sensible solution would be to limit the number of accompanying people to four or five per car.

If a family wants to invite more relatives, the dealership could set aside a separate space or special conditions for such a celebration in advance.

The idea sparked a lively discussion on social media.

Some users supported the proposal, noting that a car dealership is, after all, meant for serving customers, not for holding crowded events.

Others recalled that in India buying a car often becomes a big family event, especially during the festive season.

There were also those who looked at the situation from a commercial angle: after all, 24 guests are at the same time 24 potential buyers!

Why is buying a car in India almost a family celebration?

In Indian culture, buying a new car is often seen as an important achievement for the whole family.

The purchase may be accompanied by traditional blessings, decorating the car with flowers, treats and group photos.

Ceremonial car handovers are especially popular during major holidays, when buyers seek to tie the purchase to an auspicious date.

That is why the appearance of several generations of relatives at a dealership is not in itself considered anything incredible.

But a group of 24 people is capable of attracting attention even by such standards.

The internet argues while the story gains popularity

The post about the unusual car handover quickly drew the attention of users and the Indian media.

Some participants in the discussion sympathised with the buyer who had to wait. Others believed that the joy of a long-awaited purchase should not be limited by strict rules.

At the same time, no official reports appeared about the introduction of new restrictions for visitors to Mahindra dealerships.

The story clearly showed how differently people perceive the same celebration.

For some, receiving a new car is a few documents, the keys and the drive home. For others, it is an event that must be shared with all their relatives.

And although only one car was being bought, judging by the eyewitness account, there were enough emotions that day to fill a whole bus.

Only one question remains: if 24 people came for a single car, which of them got the right to be the first to sit in the passenger seat?

Based on an NDTV publication dated 7 November 2026 and the buyer's account on Reddit. The exact date of the dealership visit has not been established; the circumstances described are based on his version of events.
