π¬ The Internet Tried to Find an Old Film About Rumpelstiltskin That Never Existed β 7 October, USA.
A strange video suddenly went viral on social media: a fairy-tale character, very much resembling Rumpelstiltskin, dancing in lavish fantastical sets as if the shot had been cut from some forgotten film of the 1980s or 1990s.
And the internet immediately joined the investigation.
People started asking:
"What film is this?"
"Who directed it?"
"Why do I remember it but can't recall the title?"
Some were even certain they had seen this picture in childhood.
There's just one problem.
Such a film never existed.
The video turned out to be entirely created by artificial intelligence.
And this is where the story becomes especially beautiful.
The neural network didn't just invent a fragment of a nonexistent movie.
It somehow created it so convincingly that people developed nostalgia for a film they had never watched.
That is, before, AI generated images.
Then β video.
And now, it seems, it has started generating something else as well: false memories of our childhood.
The next stage, apparently:
β Remember that wonderful film we watched as a whole family in 1994?
β No.
β Never mind. AI will make it for you now. π
