The results look like genuine old prints — with film grain, slightly faded colors, soft focus and warm analog lighting. The main rule of the prompts: preserve the person's face, features, skin tone and recognizability, but completely change the clothing, hairstyle, accessories and surroundings.
Popular options include school portraits, children's birthdays, summer vacations and family snapshots. The prompts often specify: “turn it into an authentic 1980s portrait, add voluminous hair, clothing from that era, don't add smartphones or modern objects.”
The trend began in early September 2026 and spread quickly. Users share the results in Stories, use the “Add Yours” sticker and experiment with different scenarios — from family albums to street shots.
