There are festivals where people just walk around, eat, and listen to music.
And then there is MustardFEST in Ohio, where at some point someone said:
"Let's have two adults climb into one inflatable dachshund costume and race."
And nobody objected.
That's how the Springfield festival got the Human Wiener Dog Race : a race in which two people become one very long, very clumsy, and very determined dachshund.
The task is simple:
climb into the costume, not argue, move your legs in sync, and somehow reach the finish line before other human sausages just like them.
Based on the description, it looks like a mix of track and field, the circus, and the aftermath of a strange bet after three hot dogs.
But the best part is that the festival doesn't even end there.
At the same time, there are real dachshund races, so the audience has a rare opportunity to compare:
who is more graceful after all:
the dog
or two adults in one inflatable body.
And that's not all.
For those who find running in a long-dog costume not quite a vivid enough experience, the organizers have prepared a hot dog eating contest with mustard, wasabi, and ten-times-hot horseradish.
So if after the race a person can still feel their lips and their self-respect, that can be quickly fixed.
In general, MustardFEST is a perfect example of what a holiday looks like when people honestly decided:
"Let's do something as strange as possible, but fun."
And they did.
Because it's one thing to simply love hot dogs.
And quite another to love hot dogs so much that at some point you become a hot dog yourself and run to the finish line. 😄
