Metallica has officially made history. On October 1, 2026, the legendary band opened its residency Life Burns Faster at Sphere and became the first metal band to take the stage of this unique dome.
Sphere is not just a venue. It is a seamless dome about 112 meters tall (roughly 20–30 stories) and worth 2,3 billion dollars. In person it looks simply unreal: a giant sphere completely covered in LED screens that at night turns into a living, breathing structure. Inside is the largest and sharpest screen in the world with 16K resolution, which surrounds viewers at 360 degrees.
Metallica did not just play a concert. It completely seized the space. From the first chord of "Battery," the hall turned into a heavy, powerful universe: monsters, crumbling statues, graveyards, desert landscapes and the band's classic thrash moments unfolded right above the viewers' heads. Hetfield, Ulrich, Hammett and Trujillo looked as if they were playing inside their own film created specifically for this dome.
The residency will run until March 2027 and includes 24 shows in the "No Repeat Weekends" format — every Thursday and Saturday will feature completely different setlists. This means that fans who attend both concerts in one week will hear practically two different albums live.
Sphere has already hosted U2, Eagles and Dead & Company, but metal came to this dome for the first time. And it came with confidence. Metallica proved: even in the most futuristic hall in the world, heavy music sounds powerful, honest and truly epic.
