Tech giant LG has officially shifted its strategy, moving away from the concept of the "smart home" in favor of the "affectionate home." At CES 2026, the company unveiled its "Affectionate Intelligence" vision. This is not an attempt to give a kettle or a refrigerator a soul, but a fundamental overhaul of how household appliances interact with people.

What is the fundamental difference? Traditional AI in electronics relies on command-execution algorithms. You make a request, and the device performs it. The philosophy of Affectionate Intelligence changes this trajectory: devices should no longer wait for commands, but instead adapt to the habits, context, and physical state of the owner.
The three pillars of "Affectionate Intelligence" are as follows:
- Contextual Sensing: Devices analyze the environment and human behavior. If you return home exhausted, the lighting and climate control systems adjust their settings without your intervention, creating an atmosphere for relaxation.
- The "Zero Labor" Ecosystem: Appliances are integrated into a single network. Robotic agents, such as the LG CLOiD, coordinate washing machines, kitchen panels, and air purification systems so that routine chores require minimal human effort.
- Personalization: Algorithms learn the unique rhythm of a family's life, accounting for each household member's preferences—from shower water temperature to lighting scenes in the nursery.
This evolution turns gadgets into digital assistants whose primary goal is to free up time for real communication and rest.
It is important to understand that "affection" in this context refers to the deep integration of user habit data into the daily environment. We are moving from the era of "programmable things" to the era of "adaptive environments."
Will household appliances that anticipate desires rather than wait for commands truly help us, or do we risk losing control over the comfort of our own homes? The answer to this question will become clear once "Affectionate Intelligence" technology becomes a part of everyday life.
