At a presentation Qualcomm were going to show how far robotics has come. 🦾
And they showed it.😂
Though not quite in the right direction.
A humanoid robot was brought onto the stage 4NE-1 from NEURA Robotics, running on the Qualcomm Dragonwing IQ10 platform. Everything was going quite futuristically: the robot came out, helped demonstrate the equipment, stood next to the host…
And then, right in the middle of the story about a wonderful robotic future, it dropped to its knees and collapsed on the stage.
What's especially wonderful is that the host barely stopped and continued the presentation as if the career of one of the event's participants hadn't just ended right next to him.
A few seconds later, stage staff ran up to the robot, covered it and carried it away.
It turned out so dramatic that the internet immediately started joking: the machine had simply heard how much work lay ahead of it in the future and decided:
— No. I quit.
Qualcomm later explained that there had been no robot uprising. Due to a brief communication failure, the robot activated its built-in safe shutdownsystem: it deliberately dropped to its knees to minimize the risk of falling. According to the company, the safety system worked exactly as intended.
So technically, everything went successfully.
The robot fell correctly.

And this is perhaps the most high-tech way of saying:
"I am no longer taking part in this meeting." 😄
