At an American zoo ( San Diego (California, USA) a joyful event took place: a two-toed sloth named Zena gave birth to a baby!
There is, however, one small detail.
The baby was born back on 16 August, but the announcement was only made on 20 October!
That is, a whole two months later.
But admit it β you can expect prompt news from anyone, just not from sloths! π
The zoo staff timed the official announcement to International Sloth Day, which is celebrated on 20 October.
It turned out very symbolic: while other animals are born, take their first steps, run, jump and explore their surroundings, sloths prefer to prepare thoroughly even for their own public debut.
All this time the baby was calmly growing up next to its mother, Zena.
For the first months of their lives, newborn sloths practically never leave their mother, clinging tightly to her fur. That is how they travel, feed and gradually get to know the world around them.
No baby strollers, car seats or slings. Mom is the transport, the restaurant and the five-star hotel all in one! π₯°
By the way, the zoo staff have not even announced the baby's sex yet.
Apparently, they decided not to rush things. First we'll announce the birth, then we'll find out whether it's a boy or a girl, and closer to the New Year we might pick a name!
And such unhurriedness is quite in keeping with the lifestyle of these amazing animals.
Sloths really do move slowly, spend most of their time in trees and have a rather leisurely metabolism.
But at the same time they are perfectly adapted to their habitat and have no need at all for human notions of productivity.
No deadlines, work meetings, urgent emails or bosses asking: "Well, so when will it be ready?"
They've got everything ready. Just not today. π
And the most wonderful thing about this story is that the little sloth has already been living in the world for two months, completely unaware that humanity has finally learned of its existence.
Right now, surely, it is hugging its mother tightly and thinking something along these lines:
"So they announced it, they announced it. Can I go back to sleep now?"
It seems sloths discovered the main secret of a happy life long ago: if you never hurry, tomorrow will come sooner or later anyway.
And if tomorrow didn't arrive on time β no big deal.
With sloths, even the news comes out late, but at least nobody gets stressed! π¦₯π
