Bitcoin at the threshold of $76 thousand: ETF outflows and macro pressure put it to the test

Edited by: Yuliya Shumai

Bitcoin has once again found itself at a critical line: the price dropped below $77 thousand, and institutional investors began withdrawing funds from spot ETFs. This is not just another correction, but a signal of how quickly the mood of major players changes when the macroeconomic picture becomes less predictable.

According to Bitget, on Wednesday about $120 million net flowed out of American bitcoin ETFs, following $46 million the day before. The cryptocurrency itself traded around $76,8 thousand, having lost more than 3 % in a day. In Brazil, the price was approximately 396 thousand reais. Bitget experts note: the level of $76 thousand is an important benchmark. As long as the price holds above it, the movement can be considered a correction after the recent rally, rather than a trend reversal.

Behind the visible outflows lie deeper processes. Institutions that had recently been actively entering through ETFs are now reacting to a decline in risk appetite. This is a classic reaction: when global uncertainty grows, capital seeks safer harbors rather than assets whose volatility remains high. Here bitcoin acts not so much as "digital gold" but as a high-risk asset sensitive to market sentiment.

It is interesting that the outflows are occurring against the backdrop of overall pressure on risk assets. Other cryptocurrencies — BNB, XRP, Solana and Ethereum — are also losing ground. This shows that the problem is not only with bitcoin, but with a broader reallocation of capital. Investors who had recently seen ETFs as a convenient instrument for long-term holding are now reconsidering their positions, taking macro factors into account.

Imagine a river after a flood: water quickly fills the channel, but once the level drops, the current slows, exposing the stones. So it is with bitcoin: the inflow of capital through ETFs created a powerful impulse, but when it weakens, the price returns to previous support levels. The question is not whether the rate will fall below $76 thousand, but how quickly institutional interest will return if macro signals improve.

For the private investor, this is a reminder: cryptocurrency remains an asset where the decisions of large funds affect everyone. One should watch not only the price but also the dynamics of ETF flows — they have become one of the most transparent indicators of market sentiment. In the long term, such fluctuations help separate those who are ready to hold the asset through volatility from those who seek quick results.
