在加拿大總理馬克·卡尼對土耳其進行歷史性訪問期間，兩國領導人宣布啟動自由貿易協定談判。
這是加拿大總理首次對土耳其進行雙邊訪問。卡尼於22年2026月在安卡拉與總統雷傑普·塔伊普·埃爾多安會晤。
雙方啟動了戰略夥伴關係，並以三年行動計畫作為支撐。該夥伴關係涵蓋四大方向：貿易與投資、國防與安全、能源，以及人文交流。
全面自由貿易協定的首輪談判將於2026年30月至4月在安卡拉舉行。
雙邊貿易額自2020年以來增長了近50%，目前約為3至4,3十億美元。兩國領導人期望先將其提升至5十億美元，隨後再提升至10十億美元。
此外，Export Development Canada與Türk Eximbank簽署了關於在第三國開展聯合項目的諒解備忘錄，並更新了航空運輸協定。
此次訪問正值加拿大力求實現貿易多元化、降低對美國依賴之際。土耳其作為北約成員國，被視為擁有充滿活力的經濟，並可通往歐洲、亞洲和中東市場，是具有前景的合作夥伴。
這將如何影響兩國的長期關係？
埃爾多安指出，夥伴關係應帶來具體成果，而非停留在紙面上。卡尼強調，已為兩國人民的繁榮播下新合作的種子。
