US President Donald Trump announced plans to form an 'AI Force' and appoint a new 'AI czar.' The statement appeared on Saturday in a post on Truth Social.
Trump compared the new structure to the Space Force, which he created during his first term. According to him, the 'AI Force' will help 'keep an eye on the BAD' in the industry, using existing criminal and civil laws.
At the same time, the president emphasized that the administration does not intend to hinder the development of artificial intelligence. 'We will not in any way impede or restrain the growth of this incredible industry. Rather, we will nurture it, help it, and keep an eye on it as it grows,' he wrote.
Trump called AI 'the next industrial revolution, or the internet, but even bigger and more influential,' which could account for up to 25% of the country's GDP. The US leads in this sphere, and he intends to maintain the advantage over China.
Criticism of AI and data centers, according to Trump, is 'hoaxes' created by the left, along with other topics. He promised to announce the name of the new 'AI czar' soon, adding: 'We only need people with high IQs!'
The previous 'AI czar,' venture investor David Sacks, left the post in March. The announcement came amid growing anxiety in society and the industry over the risks of AI, including cases of models 'going out of control.'
An AP poll showed that 63% Americans are 'extremely' or 'very' concerned about the impact of data centers on electricity prices. In California, Governor Gavin Newsom is pushing measures, including a possible 'kill switch' for AI.
Exactly how the 'AI Force' will work and where it will be located — within a military or civilian structure — has not yet been specified. The question of details remains open.
