White House Promotes Regenerative Agriculture to Bolster Farmer Resilience

On June 25, 2026, President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order intended to promote regenerative agriculture and bolster the resilience of American farmers.

Regenerative agriculture is a farming methodology that goes beyond crop production to actively restore soil health, biodiversity, and the land's natural cycles. The fundamental goal is to ensure the soil becomes healthier over time than it was before cultivation by increasing organic matter, enhancing soil structure, and improving both water retention and microbial activity.

The directive builds upon a February 2025 executive order that established the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) commission. Under this framework, the Departments of Health, Agriculture, and Environmental Protection have already allocated more than $1 billion toward modernizing agricultural operations.

The order highlights a growing trend among American farmers and ranchers toward the adoption of regenerative practices. These methods are designed to improve soil quality and lower operational costs, thereby increasing profitability without compromising crop yields.

White House policy is centered on advancing precision farming technologies, boosting federal investment in regenerative research and education, and stimulating private-sector innovation by cutting bureaucratic red tape.

Certain provisions of the order call for the expedited registration of alternative substances at the EPA, clearer labeling for chemical products, and the creation of a framework to evaluate the cumulative health effects of chemicals.

The Department of Agriculture is tasked with optimizing and scaling the current regenerative agriculture pilot program, utilizing public-private partnerships to achieve these goals.

How will these policy changes reshape the daily operations of farmers over the next several years?

This order does not establish new legal rights or obligations beyond existing statutes and will be carried out subject to the availability of funds.
