Marta Kostyuk triumphed over Elina Svitolina in the 2026 Roland Garros quarterfinals, securing a 6:3, 2:6, 6:2 victory. This achievement marks the first time in the Open Era that a Ukrainian woman has reached the semifinals of the French Open.
She is set to face Mirra Andreeva (Russia, competing as a neutral athlete) in the semifinals on June 4. Kostyuk is currently in peak form, remaining undefeated on clay this season with a winning streak of over 15 matches, and recently defeated Andreeva in the Madrid final.
This result represents the best performance by a Ukrainian player in the history of Roland Garros. Previously, no Ukrainian woman had reached the tournament's semifinals, with Svitolina's best results being her quarterfinal appearances.
Following this win, Marta Kostyuk has climbed to a career-high 12th in the WTA world rankings.
