On 13 September, at a NASCAR race, Sophie Cunningham proved that athletic talent is a universal thing. The direction the ball flies in, however, is not.
The WNBA star came to Enjoy Illinois 300 at the World Wide Technology Raceway and managed to do literally everything in a single day: she chatted with Michael Jordan and Jeff Gordon, worked on the TV broadcast, strolled through the paddock and even decided to entertain the crowd by kicking an American football.
The plan was simple: kick the ball beautifully from the stage straight into the crowd.
It almost worked.
The ball flew not toward the fans but into the microphone standstanding nearby, which immediately went into free fall. The crowd burst out laughing, and the moment instantly became one of the funniest episodes of the day.
The irony is that Cunningham actually played kicker in school, so kicking a ball is not exactly a random experiment for her.
But apparently this time the equipment decided to take the hit itself.
So the day's verdict can be summed up simply:
basketball — excellent.
NASCAR — excellent.
The kick — also not bad.
The microphone — disagrees. 😄
