We thought long and hard about whether to write a review of "The Last Sunrise".
Then we decided: why not?
Yes, it is primarily a youth melodrama. Yes, at times it is quite naive. Yes, the logic of some of the characters' actions raises questions.
But the film is incredibly pleasant to watch.
The sea, the sun, beautiful people, luxurious interiors, outfits, a bit of eroticism and the feeling of an endless expensive summer.
And sometimes that is quite enough for a good evening movie.
The world premiere of "The Last Sunrise" took place on 26 August 2026 on Prime Video. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Anna Todd , author of the famous series "After".
A young director and very beautiful cinema
The director was Carlson Young.
And that is an interesting choice.
Young herself started as an actress: many may remember her from the series Scream, and fans of Emily in Paris — from her role as Brooklyn Clark in the first season. Later she gradually moved into directing and made, among other things, the romantic comedy Upgraded.
In The Last Sunrise, her attention to the visual and atmosphereis especially evident.
The film was shot on Mallorca, and the island effectively becomes another main character.
Azure sea, coves, old European streets, villas, boats, stone houses — visually it is almost a two-hour advertisement for an ideal Mediterranean summer. Part of the filming also took place on Menorca. (Decider)
And it must be admitted: everything really looks beautiful.
The actors are also chosen according to the laws of the genre
In the leading roles are Maya Refikko and Fernando Lindes.
Both are very beautiful, both fit perfectly into the film's aesthetic, and there is chemistry between them.
And for a story like this, that is perhaps the most important thing.
The creators make no secret of what kind of film they are making.
There is romance.
There is eroticism.
There are expensive outfits.
There are yachts, the sea, sunsets, and a sense of luxury and abundance in literally every other frame.
In other words, the entire classic set of a summer youth melodrama is present here — and presented very beautifully.
And yes — Eva Longoria
The film also has a wonderful bonus.
She plays the mother of the main character and immediately adds a touch of adult Hollywood glamour to the film.
Longoria's appearance is always a pleasure — and against the backdrop of Mallorca, luxurious interiors, and expensive costumes, she looks as if she was simply born for this film.
The cast also includes Andrés Velencoso, Chloe Soutlaw, Sabrina Bartlett, and Stephanie Martini.
Verdict: Beauty demands sacrifices (and forgiveness of logical holes)
Yes, let's be honest: at times the plot may seem illogical, and the characters' actions naive. But let's face the truth: this is a teen melodrama. We watch it not for impeccable everyday logic, but for the mood, beauty, goosebumps, and the feeling of a summer breeze. For its genre, it is a solid, stylish, and engaging project that perfectly fulfills its main task—delivering emotions.
Beautiful—and the film is not at all ashamed of that
"The Last Dawn" does not even try to be deeper than it is.
And perhaps that is exactly why it works.
This is a story designed primarily for emotion and visual pleasure.
Beautiful actors. Beautiful sea. Beautiful houses. Beautiful cars. Beautiful dresses. Beautiful relationships.
Even the problems here look aesthetic.
Sometimes you want exactly this kind of cinema—not to analyze every scene, but to spend a couple of hours in a world where the sun shines a little brighter, the sea is a little bluer, and life looks significantly more expensive than our bank statement.
And in that sense, "The Last Dawn" performs its task perfectly.

But for a youth melodrama this is quite a worthy film.
Beautiful, sensual, light, with stunning views of Mallorca, attractive actors, and Eva Longoria as an added bonus.
An ideal choice for an evening viewing when you want to switch off your brain, enjoy beautiful faces, luxurious landscapes, and simply allow yourself a bit of romance.
The film runs only about 1 hour 46 minutes and is quite easy to watch.
