Sarah Burton Expands the Givenchy Aesthetic: Men’s SS2027 Collection

Edited by: Katerina S.

A vibrant pink leather tracksuit in Sarah Burton’s debut menswear collection for Givenchy immediately sets the tone: the brand is ready to offer men more than just sharp tailoring, introducing bold color accents previously reserved for the womenswear line. This shift feels like a natural progression, considering the British designer’s 26-year tenure at Alexander McQueen, where she mastered the art of blending architectural precision with provocative imagery.

The SS2027 menswear collection was unveiled on June 26, 2026, at Givenchy’s headquarters on Avenue George V in Paris through an intimate presentation rather than a traditional runway show. This debut occurred during the closing days of Men’s Fashion Week and followed three successful womenswear seasons: the Fall/Winter 2025 debut last March, the Spring/Summer 2026 "Powerful Femininity" campaign, and the Fall/Winter 2026 show in March 2026, which critics hailed as "stunning."

Burton translated her signature motifs into a masculine context: floral prints, loose pleated trousers, supple leather, and clean-lined silhouettes. Rather than a standalone experiment, this represents an expansion of her established aesthetic to reach a new audience. In collaboration with British artist Rachel Whiteread, renowned for her casts of architectural structures, the collection took on a sculptural quality—elements from Whiteread’s work were manifested in buttery soft leathers and voluminous shapes. Iconic suits featuring subtly cinched waists and sharp shoulders were adorned with archival tulip motifs. This broad range illustrates how Givenchy, under Burton’s direction, embraces diverse masculine archetypes while maintaining the house's unmistakable identity.

For the accompanying campaign, Burton enlisted photographer Juergen Teller and three multi-generational figures: 90-year-old British photojournalist Don McCullin, director and DJ Don Letts (noted for his work with The Clash), and artist Danny Fox. The subjects were invited to select their own looks from the collection. Burton emphasized that her goal was to showcase the multifaceted nature of masculinity—not as a single archetype, but as a spectrum spanning different generations and life stages.

Burton’s debut signals that Givenchy is moving confidently toward a more inclusive and diverse vision of menswear, where the house’s aesthetic is accessible without losing its edge and where the boundaries between masculine and feminine are more fluid than ever before.
