Initial UAP Documents Released: What the Trump Administration Has Revealed

Author: Uliana S

On May 8, 2026, the administration of President Donald Trump took the first tangible step in the long-awaited process of disclosing information regarding unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP). The Department of War launched a dedicated section on the war.gov/UFO website as part of the PURSUE initiative—the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters. These materials were prepared in collaboration with the White House, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence under Tulsi Gabbard, Kash Patel’s FBI, and other agencies.

Officials are describing this as an unprecedented level of openness. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth noted that these files, hidden under classification for many years, had fueled legitimate questions, and now Americans can see them for themselves. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard highlighted the coordination of the intelligence community's efforts, while FBI Director Kash Patel promised around-the-clock support for the process.

What exactly was included in the first release? These materials are primarily archival and historical:

  • A significant portion of FBI archive 62-HQ-83894 (approximately 161 files) consists of classic documents on UAP sightings gathered over several decades.
  • Photographs from the Apollo 12 and Apollo 17 lunar missions feature images of anomalies, frequently appearing as blurry dots or glowing objects.
  • There are videos and reports concerning "orbs"—spherical objects recorded by military personnel and pilots. The quality of these materials is largely low—typical blurry lights.
  • The release includes documents from various agencies—reports from the Pentagon, NASA, the State Department, and intelligence services, including eyewitness accounts, analytical memos, and historical cases. Many of these were already partially known through previous leaks and Congressional investigations.

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna hailed the release as a "great first step." According to her, a second tranche featuring additional videos is expected in approximately 30 days, with further materials to be released regularly on a rolling basis. Congressman Tim Burchett added that while this first release is significant, it is merely a "drop in the bucket" compared to what remains to be seen. He promised that "Holy Crap is coming"—hinting at something truly impressive on the horizon.

The public reaction has been mixed. Some welcome the start of systematic work and the coordination between agencies. Others are disappointed, as many images and videos look familiar and the quality leaves much to be desired. Experts are noting the "controlled transparency" typical of these initial stages.

The process has only just begun. This first publication is not a culmination, but rather the start of a consistent move toward greater openness. The coming weeks and months will show just how deep the government is prepared to go in illuminating one of the most intriguing mysteries of modern times. For now, we must carefully study the new documents and wait for the next installments—avoiding undue illusions while remaining focused on the facts.
