In August and September 2025, a research group from the Main Astronomical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine conducted routine observations of the Moon. A telescope equipped with a high-speed camera, located in the village of Vinarivka in the Kyiv region, captured images at 20 frames per second. The anomalies revealed in these frames prompted scientists to re-examine the data more closely.
Scientists issue warning after spotting more than 20 giant UFOs racing across the moon
Borys Zhilyaev, Volodymyr Petukhov, and Serhiy Pokhvala recorded more than twenty objects. Some of these, designated "atmospheric," appeared stationary relative to the lunar surface, seemingly suspended at a specific altitude. Others, termed "continental," traversed across the satellite's disc.
One such object, according to calculations, covered approximately 22 kilometers at a speed of about 6.6 kilometers per second. Two particularly large discs were estimated to be 25–40 kilometers in diameter—roughly the length of Manhattan.
The objects exhibited changes in brightness, flashing with short pulses lasting between 0.1 and 0.5 seconds. In some instances, these flashes occurred almost simultaneously, even for objects separated by hundreds of kilometers.
On August 16, 2025, the camera also captured ring-shaped formations. These formations reflected almost no light, absorbing most of the radiation, and completed a full rotation in approximately three minutes. Researchers estimated that the centrifugal force at their edges could exceed Earth's gravity by more than twofold.
In the unreviewed paper, the authors explicitly state: "We believe the Moon serves as a base for UFOs. They can reach Earth in 20 minutes." According to their assessment, the objects display signs of structured behavior, suggesting the possibility of a technologically advanced civilization.
The sizes were calculated based on reflected light. If the objects reflect almost all solar radiation, their actual size could be considerably smaller.
Conversely, if their albedo is similar to that of the Moon, estimates could increase to tens of kilometers. The researchers themselves acknowledge that determining the precise composition and reflectivity is impossible, rendering the figures approximate.
The observations were conducted using a single instrument. There are no independent confirmations, nor are complete raw video recordings publicly available.
Previous work by the same group had raised questions among colleagues, particularly regarding the accuracy of distance measurements. NASA and other major agencies consistently emphasize that while unexplained phenomena exist, there is currently no evidence of extraterrestrial origin.
Nevertheless, the frames exist. Faint points and spots against the lunar backdrop were captured by technology capable of detecting rapid changes.
The question is no longer whether objects were in the images, but rather what the camera actually observed—atmospheric artifacts, processing errors, or something genuinely near our satellite. Further observations and independent analysis will help us get closer to an answer.
