Morgan Stanley Announces the End of the 9-to-5 Banking Era in the Age of Tokenization

Money no longer sleeps on a schedule. While traditional banks continue to close at night and on weekends, the financial world has already shifted to a 24/7 mode – and Morgan Stanley has directly stated this.

On July 29, 2026, top bank executives acknowledged at a digital assets conference: the era of the 9-to-5 "banking hours" is officially ending. The reason is the tokenization of assets and the markets' transition to round-the-clock operation. Betsy Graseck, head of global sector research, stated directly: batch processing of transactions and strict schedules are a thing of the past.

Tokenization is not just about Bitcoin. It's about converting real assets – stocks, bonds, money market funds – into digital tokens on the blockchain. This allows for instant settlements, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, without intermediaries or delays. The crypto market has already proven that this model works; now, the same infrastructure is coming to traditional finance.

Morgan Stanley is actively preparing for the new order. Through the E*TRADE platform, clients are already trading Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana, and in 2026, the bank launched spot ETFs for these assets. Investors gain access to tokenized products that were previously unavailable or required complex procedures. According to bank strategist Danny Galindo, it is precisely these instruments that will first introduce the mass investor to the blockchain – even before they start buying cryptocurrency directly.

For the average person, this means that money will stop being "frozen" over weekends or nighttime hours. Payments, asset sales, collateral management – everything will be available at any moment. Those who do not update their habits and tools risk falling behind: as Graseck says, if payment systems are not adapted to digital flows, growth will be impossible.

The transition will take years, not months. But the direction is already clear: financial services are becoming as continuous as electricity or the internet. The question now is not whether the world will adopt tokenization, but how quickly each of us will learn to use money that never sleeps.
