Washington officially welcomed the start of direct negotiations in Caracas. A delegation from Venezuela's 2015 National Assembly, led by Dinora Figuera, arrived in the capital for meetings with the interim government.

The U.S. State Department described these talks as a unique opportunity. The parties aim to address the urgent needs of those affected by the June 24 earthquakes, expand political freedoms, and secure a more stable and prosperous future for Venezuelans.

The American side underscored its readiness to support a process led by Venezuelans themselves. This aligns with the president's three-phase plan, which aims for stabilization, economic recovery, political reconciliation, and a peaceful transition.

Washington urged all stakeholders to contribute to achieving concrete results for the population.

The official statement is dated August 6, 2026, and was published on the State Department's website.
