Boeing Workers to Vote on New Contract Offering 38% Pay Raise and $12,000 Bonus Amid Ongoing Strike

Striking Boeing workers in the United States are scheduled to vote on a new contract deal on November 1, 2024, after a previous offer failed to secure their return to work. The proposed contract includes a 38 percent pay increase over four years, a $12,000 ratification bonus, and the reinstatement of an annual bonus scheme that was absent in the earlier proposal, according to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).

Last week, nearly two-thirds of workers rejected a contract that would have provided a 35 percent wage increase over four years but did not restore a defined pension plan, which many employees are advocating for. The IAM has endorsed the new proposal, urging members to accept it to secure their gains.

Approximately 33,000 IAM members have been on strike since September 13, disrupting operations at Boeing factories in the Seattle area that manufacture the 737 Max and 777 aircraft. This strike has compounded challenges for Boeing, which has faced increased scrutiny following a January incident involving a 737 Max operated by Alaska Airlines that lost a door panel mid-flight. Following the announcement of the new offer, Boeing shares rose 2.5 percent in after-hours trading.
