A new book titled "Eat Better, Sleep Better" explores the connection between diet and sleep quality. Co-authors Marie-Pierre St-Onge and Kat Craddock emphasize that certain foods can enhance sleep.

Tryptophan, known for its presence in turkey, is found in various plant and animal proteins and whole grains, playing a critical role in producing serotonin and melatonin, essential hormones for sleep.

Key foods for improved sleep include whole-grain, high-fiber carbs, healthy fats from chia seeds and avocados, and micronutrients like zinc, magnesium, vitamin B6, and folate. These should be consumed throughout the day to support restful nights.

Two recipes from the book are highlighted:

  • Chickpea Pancake: Combine chickpea flour, olive oil, garlic, saffron, and water. Bake in a preheated skillet until golden.

  • Shrimp and Tomato Topping: Roast shrimp and cherry tomatoes with olive oil, lemon zest, and smoked paprika.

These dishes not only support sleep but also incorporate nutritious ingredients that promote overall health.
