Severe Cold Snap and Snow Forecast for UK - October 2024

Forecasters are predicting significant snowfall across parts of the UK as early as next week, with new data indicating a drastic drop in temperatures.

According to WX Charts, a dark purple mass on the weather map signifies a plunge into sub-zero temperatures, particularly affecting northern England and Scotland. Areas may experience temperatures as low as -6 degrees Celsius, with forecasts suggesting that snow could fall over several days.

Weather expert Jim Dale, senior meteorologist and founder of British Weather Services, has described the impending snowfall as "one to watch" due to the dropping temperatures. Similar frosty conditions are anticipated for the west of England, Wales, and Ireland, with temperatures potentially falling to -10 degrees Celsius.

Peak snowfall is expected around October 11, as the remnants of ex-hurricane Kirk transition into Storm Ashley. Dale noted that as this system moves through England and Wales before heading out to the North Sea, cold air will surge in behind it, creating the potential for temporary wet snow, especially over higher ground.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has issued warnings for an unsettled week ahead, predicting widespread showers and heavy rain, particularly over hilly regions. Strong winds are also expected, especially in exposed coastal areas.
