Over 35,000 jobs created and €13 billion raised highlight the growth of the artificial intelligence sector in France, as Minister Clara Chappaz prepares for the Global AI Summit on February 10-11 in Paris.

With around 100 heads of state expected, the summit aims to produce a joint declaration focusing on the environmental impact of AI and ensuring equitable access to technology, particularly for developing countries.

Chappaz outlined three main objectives: addressing societal concerns about AI, enhancing the economic appeal of French and European companies, and fostering diplomatic relations. She emphasized the importance of global governance of AI amidst rising international tensions.

The summit will also showcase European innovation, countering perceptions that other regions lead in AI advancements. Chappaz noted, "We must be less modest" about Europe’s capabilities and support local enterprises.

France plans to reveal its third strategic plan for AI, initiated by President Emmanuel Macron in 2018, which aims to popularize AI usage in sectors like health, energy efficiency, and public services. A new foundation for AI is also expected to be announced to promote open-source technology sharing with developing nations.

Chappaz highlighted the need for decarbonized energy in powering data centers and stressed the importance of developing smaller, less data-intensive AI models. The summit could lead to significant announcements regarding AI infrastructure in France.
