The International Summit on Artificial Intelligence in Paris, France, opened Monday with a focus on the technology's impact on the workforce.

"AI will have an impact on the world of work," said Gilbert F. Houngbo, Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO). "This is something that has been talked about for some time and, above all, it is something that already exists." He called for greater preparation of workers for these changes.

The summit, co-chaired by India, brought together nearly 1,500 participants, including US Vice President J.D. Vance, Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The summit aims to address the potential downsides of AI through global governance. Key tech leaders, including Sam Altman of OpenAI, Sundar Pichai of Google, and Dario Amodei of Anthropic, will discuss the issue.

France also announced its commitment to making Europe a leader in AI. More than 60 companies launched a coalition to simplify the European regulatory framework.

The summit will also see the announcement of significant investments in AI infrastructure, including data centers and supercomputers.
