Invictus Games 2025: Katy Perry, Coldplay, and Nelly Furtado Headline Opening Ceremony in Vancouver

The Invictus Games 2025 in Vancouver kicked off with a star-studded opening ceremony featuring performances by Katy Perry, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, and Canadian singer Nelly Furtado. The event, which aims to inspire recovery and support rehabilitation for injured service personnel and veterans, drew a large audience to the BC Place in Vancouver.

Perry, known for her high-energy performances, delivered a medley of her hits including "Roar," "Dark Horse," "Part Of Me," and "Lifetimes." She concluded her set with the crowd-pleasing "Firework" alongside a full marching band, a dance troupe, and large yellow dancing figures. In an Instagram post, Perry expressed her inspiration by the spirit of the Invictus Games and all the competitors.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who created the Invictus Games anthem in 2014, delivered a moving rendition of the anthem, accompanied by the Universal Gospel Choir. He then performed Coldplay's hit "Higher Power" and the band's 2008 classic "Viva La Vida." Martin thanked Prince Harry for inviting him to perform, praising him as an inspiring leader.

Canadian singer Nelly Furtado, who performed a medley of her hits including "I'm Like a Bird," "Turn Off The Light," and "Say It Right," was joined by the Duchess of Sussex for a selfie video backstage. Furtado shared the clip on Instagram, with the Duke of Sussex appearing to surprise them as he photobombed the clip midway through.

The Invictus Games, launched by Prince Harry in 2014, are an international sports tournament for injured service personnel and veterans. Over 500 competitors from 23 nations will take part in the Games, which will continue until Sunday, February 16.
