Jakarta, Indonesia - The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH) is planning to strengthen regulations related to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for plastic waste management.
This initiative aims to ensure industry compliance in managing plastic waste. The move is prompted by low participation from companies in submitting waste reduction roadmaps, as mandated by a 2019 Ministerial Regulation.
The "polluter pays principle" will be enforced, holding producers accountable for the environmental impact of their products, including plastic packaging. KLH has also launched initiatives like phasing out single-use plastics by 2029 and halting plastic waste imports.
