The European Commission and the Hauts-de-France region, responsible for the European Urban Initiative (EUI), have selected twenty projects aimed at promoting digital and green urban transformation across 13 EU member states. The initiative is backed by €94 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

One notable project is in Cesena, Italy, which focuses on supporting energy transition through the creation of Renewable Energy Communities (REC). This includes launching a free technical consulting service on renewable energy, supported by the Energie per la Città help desk.

Other selected European projects include one in Tilburg, Netherlands, for the renewal of used electric vehicle batteries, and another in Košice, Slovakia, for repurposing vacant buildings for community use.

Each project will receive up to €5 million from the ERDF, covering 80% of eligible costs. These projects serve as innovative urban space examples across Europe, with expectations for further adoption of these practices.
