In an interview with Fox News, Jeff Bezos expressed an optimistic view of the impact of artificial intelligence on the labor market. The founder of Amazon believes that the productivity gains from AI will allow many families to get by on a single income and to shorten the workweek.
"Some people will decide: you know what, I can support a family working three days a week. That's what productivity means in an economy," Bezos told host Bret Baier. The interview took place at the Blue Origin site in Florida and aired on Wednesday.
Bezos emphasized that the main problem of the future is not unemployment but a shortage of labor. According to him, people will be able to give up a second job or a second salary in the family, and it will become harder for companies to hire employees.
"You won't need a two-earner family. If you want to, stay; if not, one of the spouses can leave. It will be hard to hire people, because productivity will make it possible not to work two jobs," he added.
Bezos predicted double-digit productivity growth in the economy thanks to AI. He disagrees with the forecasts of many experts about mass layoffs due to automation and stated bluntly: "I just don't agree with those smart people."
When Baier mentioned the elimination of about 30 thousand corporate positions at Amazon over the past year, Bezos explained it as a consequence of the sharp hiring during the pandemic. The company carried out the largest reduction in its history in October 2025 and January 2026.
But will such a scenario lead to a real reduction in working hours for most workers, or will it remain merely an opportunity for some of them?
So far, Bezos has not given specific timelines or explained exactly how productivity will be distributed between companies and employees. His comments came amid active discussions about the risks of AI for employment.
