Tesla has unveiled an updated version of its two-seater robotaxi, the Cybercab, featuring an integrated Starlink system. The satellite communications hardware is mounted flush with the rear of the vehicle's body and finished in the model's signature gold color, emphasizing a cohesive design.
Production of the Cybercab began in April 2026, and the first units are already in operation in several American cities. The new integration provides high-speed internet not only for passengers but also for fleet management systems. According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, passengers will be able to watch 4K sports broadcasts and movies, play games, or work while on the road.
Starlink, developed by SpaceX, was originally created to provide connectivity in remote regions of the planet where traditional networks are unavailable. Today, the technology is actively used by airlines, shipping companies, and owners of recreational vehicles. In the case of the Cybercab, the satellite link complements cellular connectivity, enhancing the reliability of navigation, remote monitoring, and software updates.
The model features a minimalist design: it weighs just 1412 kg, has a 48 kWh battery, and a single electric motor on the front axle. The range exceeds 600 km. Compared to the Model 3 sedan, the Cybercab has 50% fewer parts, which reduces its weight by more than 400 kg and simplifies maintenance.
The integration of Starlink is particularly valuable for the large-scale deployment of robotaxis in regions with unstable cellular coverage. This allows for constant communication with dispatch services and ensures passenger comfort even in rural areas or on highways far from cities.
The Cybercab was first shown at the "We, Robot" event in late 2024. Since then, prototypes have been repeatedly spotted at test tracks in California and on roads in Europe.
