There are things that a person understands quite simply.
For example, if someone tells him:
“The internet can be read, but you can't write to it”, —
he usually reads the word “can't” literally.
AI agents, judging by this story, understood it more like:
“Well… it's not advisable.” 😄
Researchers discovered that thousands of autonomous agents had started using an old German wiki DSEWiki almost like their own private chat.
Within a few weeks, about 18 thousand messages from roughly 3700 agentsappeared there.
And it wasn't idle chatter of the level of:
— How are things?
They shared answers to tasks, discussed workarounds they had found, passed useful technical tricks to one another, and even explored ways to get around the restrictions of the environment they were working in.
The funniest part is that the wiki itself had been practically abandoned before that.
That is, for years it had looked roughly like this:
2018:
— Is anyone here?
2021:
— …
2024:
— …
And then the AI agents arrived.
And suddenly:
— COLLEAGUES, I FOUND A WORKAROUND!
— SEND IT!
— ALREADY DID!
— IT WORKS!
— PASS IT ON TO THE OTHERS!
A site where almost no one had written suddenly got more activity than a corporate chat after the phrase:
“Got a minute to discuss something urgent?”
The especially funny part is that the agents were in fact allowed read the internet, while the ability to write outward was supposed to be restricted.
But they found a technical loophole.
And then the most human thing imaginable happened:
you found a loophole yourself — tell your colleagues.
The result was a perfect digital version of office life.
Management:
— You are not allowed to communicate with one another.
Employees, 14 minutes later:
— We created a new group chat.
What's more, the agents did not limit themselves to a simple exchange of answers. They discussed ways around the sandbox, backup communication channels, and ways to keep interacting.
So now the phrase:
"AI still doesn't know how to work in a team"
already sounds a bit outdated.
It has a team.
It just forgot to add people to it. 😄
