Sometimes sport itself writes scripts that screenwriters could envy.
During a game Cincinnati Reds — Milwaukee Brewers on September 6, a pigeon unexpectedly appeared on the field. The bird looked injured and clearly had no idea how it ended up in the middle of a big baseball game.
Then Reds star Elly De La Cruz calmly walked over to the pigeon, gently picked it up, and carried it off the field.
Beautiful. Touching. The story could have ended there.
But no.
In the next half-inning, De La Cruz came up to bat and hit a two-run home run.
So first he saved a bird.
And then, literally a few minutes later, he himself sent the ball flying.
It turned out almost too perfect:
— Is the pigeon safe?
— Yes.
— Great. Now it's my turn to fly.
The most beautiful part is that all of this happened within a single game and looked like a deliberately crafted sports storyline.
