On the October 21 episode of the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, Sophia Bush answered the host's question directly: "I can say that there was no overlap." The two women, who had already filed for divorce and were living apart from their exes, simply went to dinner — that is how the actress described their first date.
Rumors of an affair during their marriages have followed the couple since October 2023. At that time, Bush had split from Grant Hughes, and Harris from Ali Krieger. Both couples officially finalized their divorces in 2023, but the public preferred the "cheating" version. Bush and Harris secretly married in the summer of 2025 and only revealed it in September 2026.
Bush stresses that she is tired of repeating the same thing. "That is my personal definition of insanity — doing the same thing over and over again with no result. I will never convince those who invented this story themselves," she stated. According to her, the rumors have already affected both of their careers and undermined trust in them.
Behind the persistence of the rumors is the usual mechanics: a story about "breaking up someone else's family" sells better than the gradual divorce of two grown women. Especially when one of them is a well-known lesbian and the other is a former player for the U.S. national team. The public wants drama, not boring facts about living separately and filed petitions.
Bush herself admits that she regrets some details — for example, that the date took place in New York on the way home, rather than six weeks later. But she has no intention of changing reality to suit other people's fantasies. "I have worked too hard on myself to hurt others, especially when there are children involved," the actress added.
In her memoir "And I Will Tell You Mine," which comes out on October 27, Bush will share more about her journey. For now, her position is simple: she will no longer waste her energy refuting other people's fabrications.
