Nicolas Cage continues his legendary run of eccentric and charismatic roles. This time, the actor has appeared in the trailer for the crime thriller Best Pancakes in the County (“Best Pancakes in the County”), and he is almost impossible to recognize.
As a fast-talking con man nicknamed S.O.B. (or The Son of a Bitch), 62-year-old Cage wears a curly black wig, yellow aviators, a prosthetic nose and a loud plaid suit. He looks as if he has stepped off the pages of a cheap 70s crime novel, and yet he remains entirely in his signature element — loud, nervous and utterly unpredictable.
The plot unfolds over one explosive night in a rundown diner in a small American town. This is where out-of-control federal agents, a dangerous swindler with a dark past and a waitress who also has secrets of her own collide. At the center of the conflict is a hard drive containing dirt on the CIA. In one of the trailer’s most memorable moments, Cage’s character says: “Nine years ago, a hard drive with dirt on the CIA appeared. I hope it can be monetized.” And a little later he asks with a smirk: “Why do you think I insisted on meeting right here? Because of the pancakes?”
The director and screenwriter is Ken Sanzel, who has already worked with Cage on the film Kill Chain (2019). Joining the actor are Justin Long, Shelley Hennig, Lauren German, Ravi Patel and others. The picture will be released in limited theaters and on digital platforms on 20 November 2026.
After Longlegs, Dream Scenario, Mandy and dozens of other projects, Cage seems to have found the perfect balance between arthouse and pure genre madness. “Best Pancakes in the County” looks exactly like a continuation of that line — an absurd, bloody and very Cage-esque action film in which even an ordinary diner turns into an arena for shootouts and double games.
Judging by the trailer, viewers are in for another dose of signature chaos from an actor who long ago stopped playing “just roles” and prefers to become the living embodiment of cinematic madness. And yes, the pancakes, apparently, really are the best in the county. If only because there is shooting going on next to them.
