A significant wildfire, dubbed the "Jones Road Wildfire," is currently burning in the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area in New Jersey. The fire has rapidly expanded, growing from just over a hundred acres to approximately 8,500 acres within a day.
The blaze has prompted mandatory evacuations in the Route 9 area of Lacey Township, affecting around 3,000 people. The fire also threatened 1,320 structures and caused widespread power outages, impacting approximately 25,000 homes and businesses.
The severity of the fire led to the closure of Route 9 and the Garden State Parkway during rush hour. As of late Tuesday, only 10% of the fire was considered under control.
