Two new bird species have been added to the migrant list in Binzhou-1

This year's autumn bird migration brought an unexpected gift to the coastal wetlands of Binzhou: monitors recorded two species at once that had never before been noted in the city. During the national holiday, observers confirmed the presence of the Manchurian reed warbler and the green flycatcher — both species became new records for the local fauna.

Binzhou is located on a key section of the East Asian migration route. Here marshes, mudflats and ancient shell ridges alternate, serving as a temporary haven for the birds. During the holiday days, large flocks were recorded daily, and among them — great egrets, Dalmatian pelicans, yellow-breasted buntings and other rare guests protected at the state level.

The appearance of new species speaks not only to the accuracy of observations, but also to the gradual recovery of coastal ecosystems. The more diverse and stable the stopover site, the greater the chances for migratory birds to gather strength for the long journey. Monitoring that does not stop after the holidays helps to understand exactly how the birds use these territories and what changes in the landscape influence their choice.

Local specialists are already planning to strengthen patrolling and continue restoring the beaches and shell ridges. At the same time, the fight against illegal hunting and the bird trade is being intensified, and residents are reminded of the rules of observation: do not approach too closely and do not leave litter behind.

Such finds remind us that even a small stretch of coast can play the role of an important link in the vast chain of migrations. When an ecosystem is in good order, it receives more and more guests and thereby supports the stability of the entire migratory flow.

Regular observations and a careful attitude toward coastal wetlands help preserve these "sea stations" for future generations of birds.
