🐶 Denver Airport Has CATS — but Almost All of Them Are Dogs
At airports, you're usually advised to arrive early for check-in and security. In Denver, there's another reason not to rush to the gate: specially trained animals roam the terminals, and they are officially allowed to be petted, hugged, and photographed.
The program is called Canine Airport Therapy Squad, abbreviated as CATS.
And here's the most wonderful part: despite the name CATS, almost the entire team consists of dogs.
Today, the program includes more than 140 therapy animalsthat have undergone training and certification. Together with volunteers, they walk through the terminals, help passengers relax before their flight, and simply collect a well-deserved share of hugs.
And the only real cat in CATS is just one.
Her name is Xeli, and she joined the team back in 2017. So it turns out the program's name existed before it had even one true representative of the feline family.
What's more, on 19 September the airport specially invited passengers to meet a CATS member named Biggie: you could pet him, hug him, and take photos with him right in Concourse C.
In short, if at Denver Airport someone tells you: "Go look for CATS", don't be surprised if a dog comes running joyfully toward you.
In this program, the name was clearly chosen by a marketer, not a zoologist.
