A three-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer named Bolt from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) airport was officially named the cutest dog of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on August 26, 2026, in the annual Cutest Canine Contest.
Bolt works in partnership with handler Daphne Wang as an explosives detection dog. He beat out 84 other candidates selected from more than 85 nominations from airports across the country. The finalists were Labrador Retrievers Amber from Orlando and Epic from Pittsburgh, as well as German Shepherd Xaro from St. Louis. Bolt became the third representative of his breed to win this title in the last four years.
According to Daphne Wang, Bolt is a real character: he is completely focused on work, but at the same time has a bright, mischievous personality. "He's such a character and a very hardworking little guy. He absolutely loves his job and coming to work," the handler noted. The dog never loses energy, even at home he remains in "work mode" and is always 1000% happy to head to the airport.
TSA emphasizes that such contests help showcase not only cuteness, but also the important role working dogs play in ensuring passenger safety. Bolt, like the other finalists, daily inspects terminals and luggage, identifying potential threats. His winning photos with a wide smile and playful behavior quickly spread on social media, causing a wave of adoration among thousands of people.
