Kenya Launches 35-Megawatt Geothermal Power Plant to Enhance Green Energy Access

NAKURU, Oct. 26, 2024 — Kenya has initiated the construction of a 35-megawatt (MW) geothermal power plant in Nakuru County, approximately 200 km northwest of Nairobi. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 24, 2024, attended by President William Ruto.

The project, expected to be completed within 17 months at a cost of around 90 million U.S. dollars, aims to enhance the country's transition to green energy. It is anticipated to improve climate resilience and stimulate economic growth.
