UNHCR and Partners Launch New Initiative to Support Refugee Education in Lebanon

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and its partners launched a new initiative on August 15, 2023, in Beirut, Lebanon, to support refugee education. The initiative aims to provide access to quality education for refugee children and youth in Lebanon, who face significant challenges in accessing education due to limited resources and infrastructure.

The initiative, funded by the European Union, will focus on improving access to education for Syrian refugees in Lebanon. It will provide financial assistance to schools, train teachers, and develop educational materials. The initiative also aims to address the specific needs of refugee girls, who are often disproportionately affected by limited access to education.

The UNHCR estimates that over 1.5 million Syrian refugees are living in Lebanon, with many facing significant challenges in accessing education. The new initiative is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of refugee children and youth in Lebanon, providing them with the opportunity to learn and develop their skills.
