Bolivian Court Upholds Arrest Warrant for Former President Evo Morales

A Bolivian court has rejected an appeal by former President Evo Morales' defense team to halt his arrest warrant. The warrant, related to a case of aggravated human trafficking, remains in effect, according to a resolution released this Wednesday.

The First Criminal Chamber of the Departmental Court of Justice of Tarija declared the appeal inadmissible. Judge Alberto Rocabado ratified the arrest warrant, which the police are obligated to execute.

Morales is being investigated by the Prosecutor's Office for allegedly having a relationship with a minor, with whom he allegedly had a child in 2016 in Tarija, while he was president. The court also upheld Morales' declaration of rebellion, issued on January 17, for failing to appear at two preliminary hearings.
